Irrigation Guidelines

Mango is a crop that is to some extend resistant to drought conditions.
However, water management during fruit development is important.

The general guideline of South Africa mature mango orchard is between 8000 and 1000 m³/ha with a 70% area covered by tree canopy.

Guideline to schedule irrigation in the orchard:

• Take a soil water measurement available in the soil at any given time in the different root zones.
• Do a soil water balance calculation to determine the amount of water needed for optimum conditions.
